Sing to the Lord of Harvest,
Sing songs of love and praise;
With joyful hearts and voices
Your alleluias raise.
By Him the rolling seasons
In fruitful order move;
Sing to the Lord of harvest
A joyous song of love.
God makes the clouds rain goodness,
The deserts bloom and spring
The hills leap up in gladness,
The valleys laugh and sing.
God fills them with his fullness,
All things with large increase;
He crowns the year with blessing,
With plenty and with peace.
Bring to this sacred alter
The gifts his goodness gave.
The golden sheaves of harvest,
The souls Christ died to save.
Your hearts lay down before him
When at His feet you fall,
And with your lives adore him
Who gave his life for all.
Confession & Forgiveness:
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Almighty God, to whom all our hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your Holy Name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
If we say we have no sin, we DECEIVE ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
(Silence for reflection and personal confession)
Most merciful God, We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. WE have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole hearts; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Holy Name. Amen.
In the mercy of our almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. To all who believe on His name He gives the power to become the children of God, and has promised them his Holy Spirit. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this, Lord, to us all. Amen.
Isaiah 2: 1-5 The Mountain of the Lord
This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
In the last days the mountains of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Many people will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord.
John 4: 27-38 The Disciples Rejoin Jesus
Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?” Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” They came out of the town and made their way toward him. Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” Then the disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?”
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Don’t you have a saying, ‘it’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying, ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”
Children’s Sermon:
Lyrics:
Hark, the voice of Jesus crying,
“Who will go and work today?
Fields are white and harvests waiting-
Who will bear the sheaves away?”
Loud and long the Master calleth;
Rich reward he offers thee.
Who will answer, gladly saying,
“Here am I, send me, send me.”
If you cannot speak like angels,
If you cannot preach like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus,
You can say he died for all.
If you cannot rouse the wicked
With the judgement’s dread alarms
You can lead the little children
To the Savior’s waiting arms.
If you cannot be a watchmen,
Standing high on Zion’s wall,
Pointing out the path to heaven,
Offering life and peace to all,
With your prayers and with your bounties
You can do what God commands;
You can be like faithful Aaron,
Holding up the prophet’s hands.
Let none hear you idly saying,
“There is nothing I can do,”
While the multitudes are dying
And the Master calls for you.
Take the task he gives you gladly,
Let His work your pleasure be;
Answer quickly when he calleth,
“Here am I, send me, send me!”
